So
don't get all worked up that this is what everyone
at Adrean thinks...proceed!
Time
to reflect on the past
!
Another
year of Oneida County American Legion baseball has
come and gone. And once again, Adrean Post was the
last one standing. Congrats to Whitestown Post as
they won the County Championship. Please stand up
and receive your pepper sandwich please.
So
every team back in June had high hopes of winning
the county and advancing to district play for their
opportunity to play for a state championship. But
all of these hopes were dashed as Adrean Post saved
their best ball for the end. They were able to go
on a run through the districts and advance to the
state tournament. Unfortunately, they were not able
to overcame some erratic play and were only able to
go 1 and 2. Props to Andy Wengert as he carried AP
with his right arm and bat. His pitching and timely
hitting sparked AP during their run.
Jason
Barrone capped a career at Adrean by pitching some
brilliant games down the stretch. Glad you stayed
Jay? And was their a better double play combo than
Robert and Devins? These two turned critical dp's
in post season that would help out any pitcher.
This
just in...Devins named best shortstop in Central NY.
Although his offensive stats are not the highest in
the land, Devins is as solid a SS as they come. Any
coach would be lucky to have him at the Short Stop
Position. Their were visions of grandeur at many legions
this past summer. Many squads were supposed to be
up and coming and make a run at a title this year.
But most were only able to make a run for the golf
course. Ft. Schuyler had the attitude and swagger
to make everyone believe that they would be one of
the top teams this year. But what they had was themselves
looking from the outside when playoffs started. What
a disappointing season it must have been for them.
Rumor has it that coach Jay Dispirito has stepped
down and will be replaced by Henry Fink.
Sherrill
finished with the best record in the county for the
regular season.. But their lack of a quality non-league
schedule caught up with them as they proved that they
were not able to handle pressure situation and were
eliminated in the playoffs (see W'town Post). Smith
made an earlier than usual disappearance from this
year's post season. But I am sure that they will be
back next year stronger than ever.
And
last and certainly least, Utica Post. Utica pulled
out all the stops in the post season to try to advance
to the state tournament. From pulling former players
out of the bleachers to pitching guys on 3 hours rest,
to making sarcastic and down right embarrassing comments
on the field, this Utica team made a valiant effort
in the post season. If only the hot dog vendor and
groundskeeper had not turned down Utica's request
for them to suit up and play the left side, they may
have had a chance.
So
another year has come and gone.
Congratulations
to all the senior players who will be going off to
college. Best of luck. The Jungle looks forward to
next year, with a ton of young talented players returning
for many teams. Continue to check out The Jungle all
year round as weekly commentaries will appeal with
all of the latest and greatest updates, rumors and
takes on the world of high school and American legion
baseball will appear.
