Ryan
Finn Selected MAAC Baseball Player of the Week
Junior Slugger ties school mark
for career
homeruns with three weekend bombs
LOUDONVILLE
- After powering Siena to a 2-1 series victory at Fairfield
this weekend, junior Ryan Finn (Clinton, N.Y./Clinton)
was selected MAAC Player of the Week (week ending 3/26)
today.
Finn
had an exceptional week for the Saints homering three
times and driving in 11 runs. In the first game of the
two-day set on Saturday, Finn single-handedly erased a
6-0 Fairfield lead with a pair of three-run homeruns,
the second of which tied the score in the sixth inning.
After
severely spraining his ankle late in the first game, Finn
taped up the injury and again put on a show in the nightcap.
Finn walked and scored in the fourth inning, was hit by
a pitch, which drove in a run in the fifth and provided
all the insurance the Saints would need with his third
homerun of the daya two-run shot in the seventh.
Finns final blast also moved him into a share of
the schools career homerun mark (25).
In
the series finale on Sunday, Finn again limped into the
batters box and delivered. His bases-loaded RBI
single in the first drove in two runs. He would single
again in the fourth and hit the ball solidly in each of
his four trips to the plate.
Last
season, Finn set the school record for hits in a season
(64) and he entered the season with a .354 career batting
average. After a sluggish start to the 2001 campaign,
Finn raised his average over 30 points this weekend with
his 6-for-10 performance at the plate.
Sienas
two games this coming week have been cancelled due to
the condition of the playing field. This weekends
home MAAC series with Manhattan is still on as scheduled.
First pitch of Saturdays home-opening double-header
is slated for noon.

In the nightcap, junior Brent Wengert (Whitesboro, N.Y./Whitesboro)
picked up his third win of the season (3-4), hurling six
shutout innings in a 7-0 Siena win. Wengert allowed only
three hits, and struck out two en route to the win.
Kevin
Roberts (Utica, NY, Adrean) topped off the double
header going 3 for 8 with an RBI and 1 Run Scored.
