Chris Darling was the backbone of our club this past season. He has shown exceptional leadership by example. He played the bulk of the season hurt with a severely jammed catching hand thumb injury. The injury limited his playing time behind the plate but that was the only place. Chris played a solid outfield for AP and showed even more versatility by filling in at first base when Andy Wengert pitched. The most significant contribution was his performance on the mound. With the staff depleted due to injuries or sickness, Chris stepped in and became our number three pitcher down the stretch. Chris put on a hitting streak near the end of the season with timely and meaningful hits that won us ballgames and a great deal of respect from the staff for his performance under pressure. Chris should really help whichever college he chooses to attend in the fall of 2001
