Sal LiCari was the workhorse behind the plate this year. With the young guys not quite ready to step in to give Sal a break and Chris darling suffering from severe hand injury, Sal took both the physical and mental load of the position and carried the staff to the state finals. Along with the defensive responsibilities that catching brings on, Sal responded all season with a strong hitting performance. Spending most of the year batting over .400, Sal slumped the last part of the season more from fatigue than from ability. A strong physical player (middle linebacker recruited by Utica College along with baseball) he showed maturity and poise when placed in critical game situations and when he was challenged by the staff to continue to push himself. Sal has a football mentality that he brings to the game and we hope to get him to infect our younger players with that same drive.
